How We Work — Our Approach

What to Expect During Your Treatment

1
Consultation — We Listen Carefully
Every treatment begins with a detailed consultation. We take the time to understand you and your pregnancy: how you are feeling, what symptoms you may be experiencing, and what you hope to gain from treatment. At our Berlin Mitte practice, we create space for this conversation without rush or time pressure.
2
Assessment — We Observe and Evaluate
Using experienced clinical observation and gentle palpation, we assess areas of tension, restriction, and functional imbalance throughout your body. Our examination considers your changing posture, pelvis, spine, and diaphragm — all areas requiring particular attention during pregnancy.
3
Osteopathic Treatment — Gentle and Precise
Our techniques are specifically adapted for pregnancy — gentle, targeted, and safe throughout every trimester. Through calm and precise hands-on treatment, we help release tension in the pelvis, spine, and soft tissues while supporting your body’s comfort and balance during pregnancy.
4
Aftercare and Guidance — Personalised Recommendations
Following your treatment, your body is given time to settle and integrate. You will receive an individual assessment, practical advice for daily life, and recommendations for any next steps — all tailored to your trimester and your current needs.

How Can Osteopathy Help During Pregnancy?

Back Pain & Muscle Tension

Changes in posture and increasing body weight place added strain on the spine and muscles
Osteopathy helps release tension in the spine, pelvis, and surrounding muscles while supporting the body’s adaptation to its changing centre of gravity.

Pelvic, SI Joint & Pubic Pain

Hormonal ligament relaxation and shifting pressure on the pelvic ring
Targeted osteopathic treatment can improve pelvic stability, reduce SI joint and pubic pain, and maintain healthy mobility.

Birth Preparation & Pregnancy Support

Holistic osteopathic care from early pregnancy through to birth
We support you throughout all three trimesters and prepare your body for birth during the final trimester — encouraging optimal pelvic alignment and releasing tension in the pelvic floor.

Postpartum Recovery

The pelvis, pelvic floor, and body require focused support after childbirth
Following birth, we help restore your body’s balance — whether after vaginal delivery, caesarean section, or scar-related discomfort. Osteopathy supports postpartum recovery gently and holistically.

Bladder Weakness

Pressure on the pelvic floor and hormonal changes affect bladder function
Osteopathy can help regulate tension in the pelvic floor, supporting bladder control and overall comfort during pregnancy.

Nausea & Heartburn

Hormonal changes and increased pressure on the stomach and diaphragm
Through treatment of the diaphragm, stomach, and autonomic nervous system, osteopathy may help significantly reduce nausea and heartburn during pregnancy.

Abdominal Discomfort & Tightness

Stretching ligaments and organ displacement as the baby grows
Osteopathy can gently release tension in the uterine ligaments, diaphragm, and abdominal muscles to help relieve pressure and discomfort.

Headaches & Sleep Difficulties

Hormonal changes, neck tension, and physical restlessness
Osteopathy addresses tension in the skull, neck, and nervous system — helping relieve headaches and improve sleep quality during pregnancy.

Stress & Restlessness

An overstimulated nervous system due to physical and emotional demands
Osteopathy can help regulate the autonomic nervous system and promote deep relaxation, allowing body and mind to settle during pregnancy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you'd like to know about osteopathy during pregnancy at our practice in Berlin.

Is osteopathy safe during pregnancy?

Yes — osteopathy can be safely applied throughout all trimesters of an uncomplicated pregnancy. We exclusively use gentle techniques tailored to pregnancy. Before each session, we take a short medical history and check for any contraindications, so that your treatment is both safe and personalised.

When during pregnancy can I start osteopathy?

Osteopathic treatment is generally recommended from the second trimester onwards — many pregnant women come for their first session between weeks 16 and 20, when the belly starts growing and first complaints arise. For birth preparation, we recommend starting from week 34. In cases of acute complaints, treatment can begin earlier.

Which complaints can osteopathy help with during pregnancy?

Osteopathy can provide supportive treatment for a wide range of pregnancy-related complaints — including back pain, pelvic and sacroiliac joint pain, symphysis pain, sleep disorders, headaches, nausea, heartburn and abdominal pain. It is also beneficial for birth preparation and as ongoing support throughout all three trimesters.

What does a treatment session look like?

We begin with a thorough conversation about your complaints, your pregnancy and your goals. We then examine your body using gentle techniques and treat areas of tension and restriction with precision. Treatment takes place in a comfortable side-lying or seated position — always adapted to your trimester and your wellbeing.

How often should I come for osteopathy during pregnancy?

That depends on your complaints and goals. For acute issues, we recommend two to three sessions in close succession. For ongoing support throughout the pregnancy, monthly appointments work well. For birth preparation, two to three sessions in the last trimester are ideal. We will advise you individually at your first appointment.

What is birth preparation with osteopathy?

Osteopathic birth preparation focuses on the pelvis, pelvic floor and sacrum. The goal is optimal pelvic alignment, released tension in the soft tissue and good mobility of the pelvic joints — all of which can support a natural birth. Ideally, we start from week 34 of pregnancy.

How much does a session cost?

A session costs 125 euros. Many private health insurance plans and supplementary Heilpraktiker insurance policies cover osteopathic treatments partially or in full. Please check with your insurer beforehand. Statutory health insurers often contribute a fixed subsidy per session.

Does health insurance cover the costs?

Many statutory health insurers contribute a fixed amount per session — this varies by provider. Private health insurance plans often cover the costs in full depending on your tariff. We issue an invoice in line with the Heilpraktiker fee schedule (GebüH), which you can submit to your insurer.

Where is your practice located?

Our practice is located in Berlin Mitte, Scharnhorststr. 25, 10115 Berlin. We are easily accessible from Prenzlauer Berg, Moabit, Wedding, Friedrichshain and all areas of Berlin. Appointments can be booked conveniently online.
